2004 996 trailering

Body

Vehicle Information: Model: 996; Year: 2004; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 8100;

I plan to trailer my car to Portland Parade for the 1200 mile trek from Denver to Portland. I purchased a Featherlite open trailer with the usual 4 tie down rings. However, I have not found a good place to attach tie downs (strap or chains) to the car. What is the best method of tieing down the car to the trailer? Secondly, should the car be on the trailer facing backwards so that the engine weight is toward the front of the trailer? It appears that I could drive the car on forward and place the rear axle of the car over the rear axle of the trailer. However, the front of the car would be within a few inches of the front tie downs on the trailer.
