2004 GT3 gauge cluster reset stalks

Interior

Vehicle Information: Model: GT3; Year: 2004; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 9800;

While cleaning my intument cluster I broke off the stalk that resests the trip odometer. The piece left still projects beyond the face of the speedometer. I can still use it but, for aesthetic reasons want to replace it. I have purchased the small replacement part but the dealer tells me that the entire instrument cluster must be removed to accomplish this. I can grasp the remaining stalk bit with a needle nose plyers but it does nor seem to wany to come off. I am reluctant to use to much force given what the dealer has told me. Is it really necesary to remove the entire cluster ot the dash?The second question is that since the dealer installed the short shift kit the entire shift lever with the boot attached comes loose 9 pulls up) under heavy track day shifting. Why is this? Many thanks, Jim DPS Per your advice I intalled the engine mounts from the 93rs and believe it has helped with snap oversteer.
