My VIN number indicates my car was made in June, 2005. Apparently the type of IMS bearing changed this year from “early” to “late;” from the externally replaceable bearing to the internal bearing. Is there any way to tell which one I’ve got without dismantling the car? I do not need a clutch yet but I have budgeted for a bearing. However, removing the transmission only to find an internal bearing seems ridiculous.
