After the car has been sitting for a few days it can make a horrible noise on start up for a fraction of a second. The sound is like the engine is running dry with the overlay of a rattling noise from the tappets. When this happens there is no smoke on start up. I understand it is normal for this dry sump engine to emit white smoke on start up (and it normally does when driven more frequently). Have been told by Porsche that this is the hydraulic tappets building oil pressure. If I insert the key into the ignition and turn it to position 1 for around 5 seconds prior to cranking the engine it can minimize the occurrence of this event. QuestionsIs this normal?Should I use the above starting technique?
