3M clear film problem

Paint

Vehicle Information: Model: 911; Year: 2004; Body Type: Convertible; Total Mileage: 25,000;

This is a note for anyone considering installing 3M clear film to protect painted/clear coat surfaces...Do it with extreme caution and only after extensive research on application/removal methods.Instructions on web highly recommend professional installation and also that it is relatively easy to remove.Well, I installed some myself (aren't all Porsche owners do-it-yourselfers?). Installation on rocker panels/headlights/etc went fine. I tried the front hood and had a few bubbles so decided to take it off and try again...desaster! When I took it off (following manufacturers instructions for angle of pull), off came a two inch piece of clear coat.This is original paint and I couldn't believe the clear coat would lift so easy. I called the Porsche dealer since car is still under warranty. They said that it was cosmetic damage and not covered (as I suspected, but thought I would try anyway)End result...$1200 to repaint and clear coat the entire hood.Just thought I would share my experience before someone makes the same mistake.
