6 CD changer

Electrical and Electronic

Vehicle Information: Year: 1997; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 19,000;

I purchased this car from the Porsche dealer in Buffalo, NY in January 2002. The car had a factory stereo system with a cassette player built into the radio, but no CD player. Before taking delivery of the car, I had the dealer install a factory 6 CD changer in the standard trunk, left side location. This was a new changer (993-645-130-00). The 6 CD unit works fine but the CD's skip A LOT on bumpy roads, which is mostly all we have in Upstate NY. I ran the CD player in my garage in the car and tugged on all the wiring behind the radio and going to the changer and experienced no intermittent operation. However, a light 'rap' with your knuckle on the side of the 6 CD changer will cause a playing CD to skip. I talked to Autoplace Porsche in Buffalo, who supplied the 6 CD changer and the installation and they said they have had complaints about the sensitivity to skipping from other owners.Is this sensitive CD operation normal? Or should I insist on a replacement unit from the dealer? The dealer wants the whole car, but they are 2 hours away. Any thoughts??
