In response to a question asked April 19 regarding high idle on a 79SC, the owner suspected the AAV. By the nature of his description it sounds like the advance weights in the distributor are sticking and need to be freed up and lubricated. I have fixed several of these and one was in fact a 79SC. I think it falls in the catagory of overlooked maintenance. If you can slow it down with the clutch and it stays there that is a pretty good indication, in my opinion, that is the distributor. Try pulling the rotor and the felt wick out of the shaft and using some Kroil or penetrating oil to free it up and then a drop of motor oil to lubricate it. Reinstall the wick and add a couple more drops of oil, reassemble and see if it is better.I hope this helps, and thanks for letting me share this.
