85 Carrera Strut Movement

Suspension and Steering

Vehicle Information: Model: 911; Year: 1985; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2 stock; Total Mileage: 58,000;

During a DE Tech inspection, a noticable clunking sound was detected coming from the front struts (left side more so than the right side). At first we thought it might be loose wheel bearings, which turned out negative. The noise and slight movement can be detected by pulling on the top of the front wheels when the car is on the ground. There is no movement of the strut rod in the camber plate at all.We have concluded that possibly the cartridge is moving in the strut housing?? Have talked to others who have said, oh yeah, mine does or did the same thing. Replacing the cartridges did not always solve the problem.Any experience with this problem or suggested solutions....?
