-86 and 87- 911 Engine power differences

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 Carrera; Year: 1987; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2L; Total Mileage: 67000;

I own an 1987 911 Carrera and my brother has a 1985 911 Carrera. What makes the 1987 have a little more power than the 1985 when both engines are identical? Is this a DME programming issue? I have a feeling that the DMEs on both cars have been programmed differently if both engines are the same and, if this is the case, how can he upgrade his DME to get the same power I have? Does he need to buy a unit from my model year? If he does, will it work seamlessly with his car? Thanks for your response.
