911 1968 engine case material

Vehicle Information: Model: 911; Year: 1968; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 2.0 Stock; Total Mileage: over 120,000, being rebuilt;

I bought the 911 in March 1968 at the factory. Its original engine s/n is 901/14 12470. The engine case does not look like a similar '67 unit I own with s/n 901/06 7445. The car engine looks die cast smooth, the spare '67 unit looks aluminum sand cast.The magnesium engines were supposed to be standard beginning '1968 1/2'. March 1968 is too early to be '68 1/2'. But the engine nevertheless 'looks' magnesium, as do the valve covers and chain housings. My question: Is my engine case (the 901/14 12470) magnesium or aluminum?My rebuild decisions depend on knowing this for sure.Thank you very much for considering my question.Steve Henninger
