911 1969 High RPM's in 1st gear

Transmission

Vehicle Information: Model: 911E; Year: 1969; Body Type: Targa; Engine (type, size, modifications): 2.0 upgraded to 2.2; Total Mileage: 138000;

Q1:The former owner of my 69' 911E advised me to always keep RPM's below 4000 in 1st gear on these kinds of cars.Is this a general advise to avoid excessive transmission wear or...?Q2:The transmission will make a bad noise when changing to 1st gear, unless you are almost holding still (below walking speed). Is this normal, or do I have a potential bad synchro?
