911 1970 Hard starting when engine is hot

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model: 911T; Year: 1970; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): Stock- 2,2; Total Mileage: 148,000.;

My 1970 911T 2,2 sometimes is hard to re-start immediately after driving for about an hour.Car was recently tuned, it has a new starter & batteries- it "cranks" just fine. When it does start, it has a fuel odor-- like it is flooded.I have to "pump" gently the throttle and keep on "cranking"- when it starts, some smoke comes out of the exhaust. These symptoms occur when car has been run awhile, and I am at a 1/4 tank of fuel (87 octane.) Cold starts are flawless. Mechanic's advice varies...Any recommendations? Thanks! FDW
