914 Front Fenders

Body

Vehicle Information: Model (914/4, 914/6): 914/4; Year: 1973; Engine (type, size, modifications): 2 Litre; Total Mileage: 89,000;

Recently I purchased a 73 914 which had a couple of rust issues, one of which is the bottom of the left(driver's side) front fender. A club member suggested rather than removing the whole fender which is welded to the car to just cut out the rusted bottom section & weld on a patch section. Which I found that Auto Atlanta sells. Do you have any experience or feedback on what they call a "914 Front Fender Dogleg Repair" part#B914 503 031DL? I realize that most of how well it turns out will be dependent on the quality of the welder at the shop I take the car to. I was wondering if these rust patch repair pieces are made well w/o requiring a lot of other fabricating time for the welder at the body shop?Any other issues I should consider before I take the car to the shop? I'll autocross, Drivers Ed & street drive the 914.
