Bill, this is on the door pull threads. Figured out special way to cure problem - fast and inexpensive. To solve problem: no threads to screw the door pull into and I don't want to take off the fender. Here goes. Used a product called: Flange Head Ribbed Rivet Nut. Manufactured by Marson company, owned by Alcoa. For original screws: M6x 1.0 - Marson part # is 57790. bought mine at Fastenal.com Product goes into original hole, drilled out to be larger; I used a good 25/64 drill bit - manufacturer calls for 10mm hole. The flange, as the name implies, sits on the surface of the door jam A pillar - relief is about half millimeter. OK. Once an M6 screw is applied, the Rivet nut attaches to the metal - not unlike some drywall anchors. These are specifically designed for metal. Hope this saves time and doors for other 944 owners.
