964 Passenger Side Air Bag Deactivation

Vehicle Information: Year: 1991; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.3 Turbo; Total Mileage: 70000;

God has recently graced us a with a new child. I need assistance in de-activating the passenger side airbag for a car seat. There are no infant seats which fit the rear seats and only one toddler seat may fit. There are a number of car seats which will fit the front. The local dealer states there are no retrofit kits provided by the factory and that they will not provide the parts so I can do it myself. They also state it is illegal for any mechanic to alter the SRS to add a deactivation switch or otherwise deactivate the system even though federal standards require such a switch on new models. I feel caught between the federal bureaucracy and the product liability lawyers. It doesn't seem to me that a retrofit kit would be that difficult for the factory to produce. Any assistance you could provide would be appreciated. Thank you.
