97 Boxster 02 sensor

Suspension

Vehicle Information: Year: 1997; Engine (type, size, modifications): 2.5; Total Mileage: just under 40K; Transmission: Manual;

I have recently experienced a recurring irritation or problem with my stock 97 Boxster, which is used for daily street and DE driving: the engine check light warns of error; at first I took it immediately for service and was advised that the 02 warning code came on, but did not return after it was cleared and the car was run; subsequently the check light has come on again with the same result; or it has come on, stayed on for a few days then gone off by itself. No other engine problems, such as missing or increased operating temperature has occurred. Diagnoses gratefully accepted. Is this common for cars with under 40k miles? Can this car be saved without replacement of the multiple 02 sensors?
