996 Drive train


Vehicle Information: Year: 1999; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 11,000;

I just purchased my 1999 996 and when checking the air filter, I looked in the intake tract and noticed a moderate oily residue coating the wall just past the butterfly valve. Where is this coming from(blowby?)and should I be concerned?Also, the clutch seems to come in very abruptly, requiring very careful feathering or it will stall. I have driven a stick shift all my life and this one seems overly sensitive. Does this imply possible failure of the disc, or the slave cylinder that I'm hearing about, or do I just need to get used to it? At start-up I am hearing a clicking from the motor for about 1 minute and then it goes away. It sounds slightly stronger than a tappet but not as strong as a bearing. Any idea?And lastly, where should the temp. gauage usually read? How far towards the hot zone is okay? I live in an area with a hot summer climate and need to know what is acceptable.
