Thank you for taking my question, this is a new area for me to address.  This is my first Porsche.

Saturday I took my 996 in to have the Oil Pressure Switch replaced.  There was an oil leak originating from the Oil Pressure Switch.

Later Saturday night, I was doing about 65-70 mph on the freeway and I heard a noise that sounded like water burbling through a pipe.  It sounded like a liquid was getting stuck in a tube and then squirting by.  When I exited the freeway, the sound went from a every few minutes and hard to hear, to a constant sound and loud.  I pulled over and shut the engine off.  I did not see any rise in engine temperatures or oil pressure.  I did not see any engine warning lights come on.  I did notice that when the key is turned to the "ignition ON" position (not the START position) the diagnostic system does an Oil Check and the oil level shows as full (all LEDs are lite).  Usually it shows a 3/4 to 7/8 level.

Do you have an idea of what the problem might be? Does it sound repairable?  Since this is a 996, the engine might need to be replaced: what are my best options (new, rebuilt trade-in, repair my engine), rough cost for each option, any other suggestions?

I hope my description of the problem is helpful.  Again, thank you for your time and patience.

I will review various "tech notes" today, Sunday.

Joseph
