996 intermediate shaft follow-up

Model: 996, Year:C2, Mileage:45,000, Type of use:Street use only
Hi Joel, thank you for your thoughts. I went to see the car today, and the tech was more knowlegable than the service advisor. Yes, it is the intermediate shaft. He pulled some rubber plugs and saw that the cams are out of timing, so he suspects the bolt and bearings at the end of the intermediate shaft are the problem. Their engine is about $18,000 CDN, so installed with tax about $22,000 CDN.... which is $21,000 USD. (I called Buffalo porsche. Their engine is $12,000 plus installation.) The tech feels the problem is not related to the clutch. So.... DO YOU HAVE THOUGHTS WHERE TO GET A DECENT PRICE IN UPSTATE NY? ..... AND BASED ON THE DETAILS SO FAR, IS THERE ANY REASON TO TEAR DOWN THE ENGINE? Lastly, I could not tell how to add to my last question, so added this new one. THANK YOU. PETER
