996 RMS Issue

Car Purchase

Vehicle Information: Model: 996; Year: 1994/95; Body Type: Cabriolet; Total Mileage: 20-25k;

Joel, in conjunction with my search for a 1994 996 cab, I've read most everything about the infamous RMS issue with the 996 model. If you'll bear with me a moment, I'd like to summarize what I think you and others have said about this problem and ask if you agree. 1) Porsche never corrected the problem on the 996, so later year 996s are just as susceptible to the problem as those of earlier years. 2) Though only the company really knows, it looks as if only a small percentage of cars develop the problem (I think at one point you estimated something in the neighborhood of five percent).3) The problem could occur at any time, at very low mileage or very high mileage. So, mileage alone is not a good predictor of whether a particular car will develop the problem. 4) Porsche will stand behind their cars with this problem only if still under warranty. Let me also thank you for the wealth of knowledge you share with club members every day. It's irreplaceable.
