996 TT power steering pump

Vehicle Information: Year: 2003; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 3600;

My power steering pump went down yesterday spewing forth all sorts of oil on the engine and over all of the rear fascia, leaving puddles and drips everywhere. My Porsche mechanic (a great one) said the "knuckle" connecting the pump to the engine was cracked. Question: Should the entire pump be replaced? Could my engine have suffered damage (all the computer read outs were normal, "no message," engine oil level and temperature never changed). Will the oil on the engine cause problems? I respect your opinion so I'm using you as a "second" opinion consultant.
