Abnormal rear tire wear

Wheels and Tires

Model: 996, Year:1999, Mileage:57k, Type of use:Street use only
I have a 1999 996 cabriolet that I bought last year and replaced all tires at 51,000 miles. Fronts are 225-40-18 and the rears are 285-35-18 as per the reccomendations of the Porsche person who inspected my car. The car handled great. This weekend I noticed that the car had a vibration and when I looked at the rear driver side tire, it was almost flat. I pumped up the tire and looked for a leak but what I found was an almost bald tire, hardly any tread and the inside side of the tire was actually showing chord through the rubber. The other rear tire shows almost the same extreme wear pattern. The front tires look very good. I have to replace both rears but I'd like to know what caused this condition so I don't replace them after 6k miles. I haven't tracked the car and drive the car moderately. I check the tire pressure regularly. The tire manufacturer is Continental and the model of the tires is listed as EXTREME. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
