AC in a 912E?

Heating and Ventilation

Vehicle Information: Model: 912E; Year: 1976; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 4 cylinder, type 4; Total Mileage: 45,000;

I live in Florida and would like to drive my very original 912E year round. Have checked on installing AC. While expensive ($3K parts) and labor intensive (min 40 hours labor); with modern materials and technology that triples the Btu over original AC and lowers compressor drain to 1.5hp, it appears doable. Will it detract from value? Not too concerned with this since selling this car is inconceivable. Is the factory configuration with condenser in rear hood and front in trunk (requires cutting hole) better than new arrangement that puts condensers in left wheel well? I have a 15" 12V fan that makes it tolerable without AC. Trade 3K, 40 hrs labor install under dash vents and cutting holes (perhaps in front trunk and certainly in the smugglers box for the evaporator and air to vents) in my original car for AC? Please give me you thoughts?
