Heating and Ventilation

I bought my car two months ago. It had been little used for some years and the AC was inoperative. My local Porsche mechanic referred me to a local shop to have the AC re-charged, and they 'converted' the system to R134 by simply flushing out the system and adding the new coolant. It now blows cold. What is the downside, if any, to this approach, as opposed to carrying out the full-blown conversion specified in Porsche's technical bulletin?
