I have read what there is to read on the IMS issue. Notable in its absence is information on ACTUAL catastrophic engine failures. Every mecanical part I know of will fail someday unless it's in a prepetual motion machine. So when I read things like its not a question of "if" but "when" followed by a recommendation to spend 2K, and the beloved Porsche factory has nothing to say I question what the actual chance of a big failure really is ?? Is it more than blowing a tire? which can kill you . A 2K preventative fix on a $20,000 car is a tough swallow ... I cked with two shops that do the LNE kit and each told me they have not seen a 996 engine failure from IMS and also that upon removal the bearing sometimes looked fine . Just wanted to give another perspective...
