Adjusting speed and reference sensors on 951

Engine

Vehicle Information: Year: 1986; Engine (type, size, modifications): Stock 944 turbo; Total Mileage: 165,000;

Due to damaged connectors, I decided to change the speed and reference sensors on my 1986 944 turbo. The speed sensor was so stuck that I had to remove the mounting bracket (part # 944.101.321.03), thereby loosing the clearance adjustment. How do I adjust the new sensors? I do have some information explaining how to adjust the speed sensor 0.8-mm off the flywheel. On the other hand, there was a 2-mm thick washer under the speed sensor when I removed it. Wouldn't that washer be there precisely to adjust the clearance of the speed sensor (adjust without the washer, then install with it)? Of course, by doing so, the speed sensor would not be 0.8 mm off the flywheel, but 2 mm. I just have trouble understanding why that washer would be there if it hadn't a function. You would think that Porsche would just have made the bracket thicker at that point, no?
