As the owner of two 2006 Porsches (911 Carrera S & Boxster), I am familar with the IMS Bearing issue and have researched possible solutions for my cars. Unfortunately, the replacement / retrofit solutions for the 2006 to 2008 engines all seem to require “cracking” open the block in order to access the IMS Bearing.

At the 2016 Jay Peak Parade, I spoke about this issue with representatives from LNEngineering. Their recommendation was to perform a portion of the IMS Bearing replacement procedure BUT just remove the bearing’s original grease seal….thereby allowing filtered oil to reach and lubricate the IMS Bearing. Other reputable Porsche service sites (Hartech in UK) have also recommended removing the grease seal.

Please provide your thoughts and recommendations on this potential solution to the IMS Bearing issue for the 2006 to 2008 engines.

Best Regards,

John Jerabeck
