Pedro,

I am considering whether to purchase an extended "warranty," i.e., service contract through the Porsche dealer where I bought my 981 Cayman S before the factory warranty expires.  I have tracked the car about 5 times a year (at Laguna Seca, Sonoma, and Thunderhill), and likely will continue to do so; I live in the East Bay and commute to San Francisco, so I drive every day on poorly maintained pavement.  Although the car is clearly well engineered and well built, I know that some other models (particularly with other engines) have had issues that could result in expensive repairs.  I have looked at the 981 forums on Planet 9 and Rennlist, and the consensus of the enthusiasts seems to be that these cars last a long time without issues if they are properly maintained.  From your perspective as person who repairs the cars that do break, are there any known problems with any of the mechanical, electric / electronic, hydraulic systems (I have a manual transmission) that I am likely to experience in the next 80,000 miles (i.e., up to a total mileage of 120,000)?  Water pump?  Clutch?  Brake master cylinder / wheel cylinders / calipers? Fuel system? How much am I likely to spend on repairs (not regular maintenance) if there are repairs likely to be needed before 120,000 miles because of known failure points - are we talking a few thousand dollars, or $5-10K, or ??  Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on these issues,

Kendall Layne
