Baby Seat Install

Vehicle Information: Year: 1995; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 51,000;

I convinced my wife that a 993 was more practical than our Boxster since we could take the baby along. Now we can seem to get the baby seat to install properly in the back seat. It fits fine, but the belt does not ratchet back to hold the seat securely. When I yank on the belt it holds, but at rest, it is loose. In my Mercedes, I pull the belt all the way out, then it tightens as I feed it slowly back, leaving the seat securely fastened. I've taken it to the local fire station where the trained expert is baffled, and a call to the local dealer was no help either. Both rear seat belts do the same, so I don't think it's a bad belt or retractor. Surely somebody out there has a baby seat in the back seat on a 993. Help?
