Back up lights remain on

I think this is related to the 6 speed transmission or perhaps more to the reverse gear or position switch.  When the car has been cool for 12 hours (overnight) and placed into reverse, the backup lights illuminate and the passenger mirror will dip.  These are normal operation.  When reverse is disengaged the lights and mirror do not return to off and up.  I can correct the mirror with the adjustment switch but the lights remain on.  After 15 - 20 minutes of driving (not idle) I switch the car off and restart, the lights will go off and the mirror returns to normal position and function.  I can place the car into reverse and all lights and the mirror will operate as intended.  After 10 hours at work I can use the reverse gear as normal but in the morning we will do this peculiarity again.  I replaced the reverse switch at the transmission and it seemed good for about 2 weeks and then it started again . . .  Help!?  Advice?  One piece of information that may be relevant . . . I had an altercation with a small deer where some bodywork was done.  The passenger door was replaced which means there was something disconnected/reconnected.  I don't know how that could be it but this problem did not exist before that tragic event.
