Boxster engine repair parts

Vehicle Information: Year: 2001; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2; Total Mileage: 33000;

My Boxster will be out of warranty in a few months. I have no concerns about it, except that I have heard that the engine cannot be repaired but must be replaced by a "Porsche rebuilt engine," because Porsche does not sell repair parts (including gaskets). Is it true that engine repair parts are not sold by Porsche? If so, are there (or will there be) third party sources? This lack of repair parts concerns me because my previous Porsche experience has been that head repair (gasket, valves, springs, etc.) is often needed long before "bottom end" repair is required, and a head rebuild is much less expensive than a total engine rebuild. Also, older Porsche engines tended to develop oil leaks at various places, requiring gasket replacement. Should I sell the car before the warranty expires, try to purchase an extended warranty, or just live dangerously?
