Brake Caliper retaining spring orientation

I've just replaced my brake pads on my 2 caliper rear brakes, but I can't remember the orientation of the spring shaped like a cross that fits on top of the caliper. One end of the vertical piece of this cross looks like where the brake wear montioring wire snaps into place, but I don't recall. Nevertheless, is there a top and bottom orientation to the vertical piece of this cross? I assume that both vertical ends of the cross must go under the two pins that span the width of the caliper. Also the horizonal piece of the cross has what appears to be a spring on either end. Does this face up or down? Do you happen to have a picture of what it supposed to look like or provide some guidance? Thanks as always.
