Cabriolet Boot

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 SC; Year: 1983; Body Type: Convertible; Total Mileage: 55K;

Haven't seen this before. The canvas cover (boot) for my car has a rubberized(?) backing. The car's top and boot are black, this backing is tan. The problem is the canvas is servicable but over the years the backing has begun to dry out and flake away. This leaves the top and back window covered with a tan colored dust every time I put the top up. Is there anything I can apply to the underside of the boot to prevent/limit this? Or am I left with the options to live with it or replacing the boot?Thanks in advance,Dan
