Caliper rebuild

Vehicle Information: Model: 911; Year: 1967; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 2.0L ; Total Mileage: 67,000;

Ed:I?m rebuilding calipers on my 67 911, starting with the rears. Before putting it together I tried a dry run and noticed that the pistons would not go all the way in, getting hung up on the pin. I took the piston parts apart, cleaned everything, and in the hat portion of the piston insert noticed what appears to be a spring. Turning the hat over (wrong side down) with sleeve inserted the hat slides right down the pin. Flipping it right side up, the fit is too tight, appearing to want to grip the pin. How can the piston move on the pin with such a tight grip? I?m afraid that when I insert the seal inside the bore and press the piston into the bore I?ll damage something. What gives? Thanks
