Cam Nut interchangability - pre 1980 1/2 and post

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model: 911; Year: 1969; Body Type: Targa; Engine (type, size, modifications): 2.7 euro pistons (8.5:1), solex cams, webers; Total Mileage: 200000 for the car, working on the engine;

Cam nuts have always been difficult to deal with for me. My crows foot wrench seems to want to slip off. The nuts are (and need to be) very tight. This time, I'm going to try an offset box end striking face wrench. Is the later motor cam configuration easier to take off and put on?? I know it still takes some specialized tools, but the multi fingered tool looked like it would be easier. If so, can the nut replacement parts be used on a set of Solex cams - an upgrade of sorts??
