Is there a way to check the camshaft timing on a 944S without going through the whole adjustment procedure?  I'd like to determine whether the timing is off or not before I undo all the current settings (slacken central camshaft bolt, turn engine until temporary bolts stop in feather-key grooves, etc).  I've studied the procedure at http://www.9ss1.dk/porsche944/garage/vol1a/vol1a.html, and watched the youtube video for the S2.  If not I'll go ahead and do the procedure in this shop manual: http://www.9ss1.dk/porsche944/garage/vol1a/vol1a.html.  I've also seen the youtube video for the S2, and note that the dial gauge needs to show 1.4mm for a 944S.

Thanks!
