Transmission and Clutch

Vehicle Information: Model: C2; Year: 1991; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): flat 6, 3.6L, no mods; Total Mileage: 39,400 mi (63,000 km) ;

When I took the car in for an oil change my local Porsche dealer called to say that the clutch doesn't engage until the pedal is near the top, there is no adjustment possible and that the clutch is worn out. I have babied the car since new - I don't ride the clutch don't downshift hard and don't fry the clutch off the line. How can a Porsche clutch wear out in 39k mi. It doesn't slip under hard acceleration when fully engaged. Is there no adjustment?
