Clutch Pedal Shaft

Cables and Controls

Model: 911S, Year:1977, Mileage:105000, Type of use:Street use only
I recently removed the pedal assembly from my 1977 911. I took the whole thing apart and noticed the clutch pedal shaft (#930-423-027-01) had a little rust on it, so I sanded it off. In the process, I also sanded off the metal plating. I would like to get the part re-plated, but I'm not sure what type of plating to use. The original color was yellowish-green--I'm thinking it was zinc coated. Should it be zinc plated again before I put everything back together? Or, can I have it nickel plated? If it has to be zinc plated, is there a particular zinc coating to use? Or, can I get away with not re-coating it and just spray the bare metal shaft with some lithium grease? Please advise.
