Cold Clock Failure

Model: 944, Year:84, Mileage:225000, Type of use:Street use only
For years my garaged '84 944 clock stopped working whenever the air temp dropped below 50. It would start working after the car got warmed up. Figured it was a bad clock. (Everything else works.) Got another clock and the same thing is happening. I am not sure how colds slow down and stops a clock. Am I just seeing two bad clocks? The car starts fine, regardless of air temps.
