Convertible Latching Hook Socket

Body

Vehicle Information: Year: 2000; Total Mileage: 14,000;

I recently removed the module containing the map light, motion sensor, etc. where the convertible latching hook engages. When replacing it, I noticed that both of the plastic threads that hold the screws are stripped (actually, cracked to the extent that they barely hold the screws). 1) Why are there plastic "nuts" or threads used here when there seems to be a fair amount of pressure placed on this bracket by the engaged latch (strange to me that this has plastic threads when both the side sockets have steel threads in the windshield frame). 2) What should I do now, as there does not appear to be an easy way to replace the threads inside the windshield frame?
