Coolant warning light

Electrical and Electronic

Model: 996, Year:1999, Mileage:20,000, Type of use:Both Street & Track
I believe my coolant warning light is defective but wanting to confirm. The light came on during relatively hard driving such as drivers' ed events, then go off once the car sat for a while. No coolant drips noted nor did the temperature gauge move from normal operating temperatures. Lately the warning light flashes the moment the car is started and does not go off. Again, no coolant fluid loss or abnormal operating temperatures noted. I don't believe I am doing harm by continuing to drive the car as I'm convinced it's a faulty sensor. Any comments or diagnosis?
