cruise control

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 sc; Year: 1982; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 135789;

The cruise control surges slightly at speeds up to 80mph. It's not much; probably 2mph plus or minus, but it's annoying, and is clearly caused by the unit overreacting to normal speed fluctuations.(At higher speeds the throttle is not as sensitive because of the total load on the engine) Some aftermarket cruise controls allow for an adjustment of this, described as "sensitivity",but I have not seen anything like it on my 911. How much of this surge is normal, ie; maybe there is nothing wrong, before I start to check for (firstly) vacuum leaks?
