Cruise control does not shut off 1986 911

Electrical and Electronic

Vehicle Information: Model: 911; Year: 1986; Body Type: Convertible; Engine (type, size, modifications): stock 3.2; Total Mileage: 60,000;

The cruise control refuses to shut off; it will disengage when I depress the clutch and with the cc stalk, but upon release of either, the cc tries to resume the previous speed.If I turn off the engine, cc is shut off upon restart, but as soon as I use the cc, same behavior as described.I have swapped out the 1986 cc module for a 1984 and behavior does not change (I can't vouch for the condition of the 1984 module).I have also swapped the relay from the a/c for the cc, but it has no effect.Any thoughts or suggestions?Thanks in advance
