CV joint separation


Model: 911S, Year:1973, Mileage:200K, Type of use:Street use only
I need to pull the engine/transmission, and would like to know if there is a trick to separating the CV joints from the transmission flanges. I have the 4-bolt, 2-roll pin CV joints and 915 transmission. The last time I did this, I resorted to driving a screwdriver through he gasket and then prying the joint off the flange. Is there a better way?
