Deposits (etching) on rear window

Vehicle Information: Model: 911T; Year: 1970; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 87000;

I recently acquired a '70 911 coupe, which had apparently sat outside for some time. The rear window glass has fine "fog" or deposit, or perhaps an etched surface in the lowermost bottom corners. It appears to be where rain water collected and slowly evaporated, leaving what seems to be an etching in the glass, I'm guessing from acid rain? I have removed the glass and tried several things to removed the "deposits", but nothing so far has touched it. Is there a polish (fine abrasive) that might take this out? I have a glass polishing kit I bought several years ago, that came with a fine powder (cerium oxide) to make a slurry and apply with a felt wheel used in a drill motor. I haven't tried this yet.
