Do it yourself maintenance and repairs (w/correct e-mail)

Vehicle Information: Model: 911; Year: 1989; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.4; Total Mileage: ?;

How owner maintainable are these cars?I want to purchase my first 911, an '89 coup, but after reading "The Used 911 Story" I am concerned about the cost of maintenance.In order to make this work financially I will have to do almost all the maintenance work myself, as I have done on all my previous cars. (Z28, 924, GTV-6, 530i, Miata). I've done engines, gearboxes, suspensions and exhausts and generally know one end of a wrench from the other. I have a good set of tools including micrometers and such. What things on a 911 should abosuletly be left to a pro and how much can a good home mechanic do? A $3000 clutch replacement would sideline me if I couldn't do it myself.Thanks,Bob
