door check strap

Vehicle Information: Year: 1997 993 C2S; Engine (Size, Modifications): none; Total Mileage: 62K;

The driver's door check strap has failed at both ends. The repair requires the door frame to be cut open and the bracket re-welded. Then the door frame repaired and re painted. Estimated cost $600. I'm told by the body shop, a Porsche specalist, that this is a common problem on 993's due to a heavy door, not abuse. This, of course never happened on my older 911s. Was this a recall item or is PCNA, Inc helping out?
