Electrical power stays on even after ignition is off

Model: 951, Year:1987, Mileage:78,000, Type of use:Both Street & Track
I have a 1987 951. Recently a glitch showed up out of no where. Turning the ignition key to the off position turns the motor off but the electric for the car stays on. I do not have a problem with the cooling fan as others have posted. Previously with the key in the off position I could not raise the headlights or turn on the heat / a/c fan blower. All of these work. The problem is the blower fan stays on I guess to give the canon some airflow so the battery goes dead. Since this is a street/track car it has a cutoff but it is annoying to pull it and then have to pop the hood to reset the electrical.I'm pretty certain that the culprit is the ignition switch itself. But after reading what a horror it can be to replace it I just want to rule anything else out. Also, it does not appear that you can just buy the electrical portion of the switch on a 1987 but I could be wrong.Any help/advice? Thanks.
