engine knock sensor

Engine

Vehicle Information: Year: 2004; Engine (Size, Modifications): 3.6; Total Mileage: 20000;

Hi. Recently purchased a 2004 TT. I took it into the dealer for service as it seemed a bit sluggish. They determined it was the engine knock sensor that failed and in order to fix this, they would have to pull the engine out of the car. This was to be covered under warranty. Once they had the engine out, they noticed that a rodent had chewed the harness to the sensor. I am now stuck with an invoice of $3000.00. It seemed high to me. How much time should such a project require? I cannot imagine that a qualified technician would need 30 hours to perform these repairs. Am I that far off? Thank you and happy holidays.
