Engine Noise

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model: 356B, T-6; Year: 1963; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 1600; Total Mileage: 65000;

The engine in my '63B coupe seems tight and runs great. Recently though, it has acquired a new noise when cold. There seems to be a slight knock that occurs intermitently. Using a stethoscope, the sound appears to be coming from the area of the distibutor/generator bracket. The cylinders all seem to be quiet. I cannot find an adequate diagram of the fuel pump and distributor area so I am not sure what could be causing this noise. The engine is all original and runs strong. Please help define what is needed to preserve the motor.
